What is Mezcal?

Only found in México, this mystical and succulent drink is a distilled spirit made from the agave plant, which is known as a maguey. The name Mezcal comes from the Nahuatl (or Aztec) word “Mexcalli” meaning an oven-cooked agave. There are several varieties of agave that can be used to make Mezcal and can take 5 to 20 years to mature. One of the most popular magueys is the blue Weber agave that's used to make tequila. For tequila drinkers, it is a type of Mezcal. The majority of Mezcal is made from the Espadín agave plant, because it’s high in sugar and matures quickly. Today, Mezcal is known as a premier drink and will be recognized as one of the top drinks in the world.
